Description
Fine Hafted Kimberley Point Spear, Kimberley Region, Western Australia. Carved hardwood, resin, natural pigments and ceramic telegraph insulator. Kimberley points are unique to the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Pressure-flaked on both sides, the edges may be serrated. Made originally from stone, contact with Europeans led to the points being made from bottle-glass and other European materials such as ceramic telegraph insulators and Pond’s Cold Cream containers. Manly hafted as spear points, they were also used for cutting body scars and other ceremonial purposes.
